Whyte & MacKay came to AAASK to produce and install a huge PVC mesh banner to celebrate the re-branding of its entire range of blended whisky. The banner was to measure approximately 20m x 10m and would be hung outside its corporate headquarters in Glasgow city centre, one of the city’s most recognisable architectural features.
The banner was digitally printed onto PVC mesh to keep the overall weight of the banner down, which is obviously important at high levels!
With the building reaching a height of almost 50m, abseilers would be required to drop down with the banner and secure it to the structure. The banner would be fixed onto existing lines used by the window cleaning equipment, and the abseilers would accompany the banner as it was unveiled, tying it down as they went.

The original idea was to allow the banner to drop freely, but typical Scottish weather conditions put paid to this! In the end the banner was unveiled slowly to the delighted passing traffic, pedestrians and the waiting press.
The banner and its unveiling has now featured in most of Scotland’s major daily newspapers, and can be easily seen by all road traffic crossing Glasgow’s Kingston Bridge on the M8 motorway. We at AAASK also look forward to our continuing relationship with Whyte and Mackay.
